In this post, you’ll learn how to improve yourself with 60 different ways to change your life for the better.

Before I start the list, I’d like to make it clear that you should not try to do everything on this list at one time. If you try to do everything, you will likely become overwhelmed and give up.

Instead, I’d recommend you pick 1 or 2 items on this list and focus on that for the next 3-4 months or until you feel like you’ve changed that area of your life.

Improving your health should be your top priority. Without your health, you have nothing. So, if you don’t have your health in order – I’d recommend starting with this list first!

Our bodies were designed for moving. Due to modern technology, we sit more and move less.

How to improve yourself by doing more cardio:

Try to do at least 1-hour worth of cardio per day. This could be running, biking, swimming, or anything that help get your heart rate up.

If you’ve ever wanted to become stronger in your everyday life, powerlifting will get you there.

How to improve yourself with powerlifting:

Try powerlifting for 30 days and see how you like it. I’d recommend starting with Starting Strength and then using their mobile app to help track your lifts.

Similar to powerlifting, bodybuilding requires you to lift weights. What makes bodybuilding different is that you’re focusing on growing your muscles instead of focusing on becoming strong.

How to improve yourself by bodybuilding:

Try bodybuilding for 30 days and see how you like it. A good place to start your bodybuilding journey is the Bodybuilding.com Forums

If you’re like most people, you probably eat a lot of things you know you shouldn’t eat due to it being convenient.

How to improve yourself by meal prepping:

On Sunday, try making 5 days worth of meals and put them in food storage containers. This will help you have ready-to-eat food during the week without having to worry about cooking.

Walking is a simple way to add exercise into your life.

Go for a short walk around your neighborhood or nearby park.

It’s extremely easy for your muscles to get tight and tense. This can lead to muscle strains, pain, and simply being uncomfortable. To help prevent this, stretch more often.

A big problem in modern civilization is lack of Vitamin D. Vitamin D is a vitamin (arguably a hormone) that your body makes when sunlight hits your skin.

With so many people working indoors and wearing sunscreen (which prevents Vitamin D being made), it’s no surprise why the average person in the United States doesn’t have enough Vitamin D.

How to improve yourself by getting more sun exposure:

To combat this, try to get sun exposure daily without sunscreen. Get enough sun to synthesize Vitamin D but not enough to get sunburn.

Sleep is one of the most important things if you want to become healthier. While the amount of sleep you get is crucial, it’s also very important to make sure you’re going to sleep around the same time daily.

Set your bedtime and stick to it. The more consistent you are, the more likely you’ll improve the quality of your sleep.

Just because a food is processed doesn’t make it bad, it’s the chemicals and ingredients that usually make it bad. Because it’s difficult to know the complete process and chemicals used to make processed food like hot dogs, lunch meat, and etc., limit the amount of processed foods you eat.

If you love the taste of some processed foods too much to eat less of it, learn how to make it yourself. This way you can make sure it’s high-quality.

Intermittent fasting has been around for thousands of years for different reasons (and has started gaining more attention for people trying to use weight loss).

It’s also easy to do – you don’t eat or drink anything but water for a set amount of time daily.

The common time frames are: 16/8, 18/6, 20/4, and 23/1 (also known as OMAD)

The first number is the number of hours you fast for consecutively. The second number is your window for eating.

So 16/8 means that you would fast for 16 hours and then eat as much as you’d like for the next 8 hours.

Learning to cook is one the most important skills you can have for survival (it’s also good for your wallet).

How to improve yourself by learning how to cook:

You don’t have to cook complicated recipes or used expensive ingredients. Focus on learning how to cook meals you enjoy as efficiently as possible.

Smoking is an area I don’t have to talk much about. Almost everyone knows smoking is bad for your health and if you don’t – well, it’s bad.

Alcohol is also bad for your health. Your body treats it as a toxin and tries to remove it as soon as possible. Limit the amount of alcohol you consume.

When people say they want to lose weight, they’re mostly talking about the fat. Having less body fat will make you look more fit as long as you have some muscles.

Spend 30 to 90 days focusing on losing body fat. You can try Keto, counting calories, intermittent fasting, bodybuilding, and more.

Flossing is something that’s overlooked when improving your health. If you’re not flossing regularly, bacteria and plaque can build up around your gums and cause trouble down the road

Spend a few minutes flossing daily.

Credit card debt is one of the most expensive debts you can have. People usually get into credit card debt without any assets to show for their spending.

How to improve yourself by paying down your credit card debt:

My favorite method for paying down credit debt is called the “Snowball Method“. You pay down your lowest debt first. Then take the money you used for that debt and add it to the payment for the next lowest debt. Rinse and repeat.

Budgeting your money is crucial for becoming financially solid. If you’re not currently budgeting, I recommend you start immediately.

The easiest and most efficient way for me to budget my money is by using YNAB

Your credit score is your financial reputation. The higher your credit score, the better your reputation looks to anyone who checks it.

Make sure you check your credit report and dispute anything inaccurate, reduce your credit utilization, and limit hard inquiries.

Building an emergency fund will help you float through the rough times that life throw at you.

Start by saving $1,000 as an emergency fund. Once you have $1,000, try saving 6-months worth of expenses.

And once you save 6-months worth of expenses, aim for 1-year. If you can save 1-year worth of expenses in an emergency fund, you will be able to withstand the typical storms that life will bring (job loss, car breakdown, etc.) fairly easily.

Making your money work for you is one of the smartest things you can do financially. Your money doesn’t need sleep, food, or anything and it works 24/7.

Everybody wants to have a successful career. Take a look at the list below and see if there is anything you can start implementing to help improve your career.

If you work the average day job, there’s likely a lot of tedious and redundant tasks that you have to do.

Create a process to standardize your tasks or (if you have the technical know-how) automate your job to free up your time.

Joining a networking group can be great for your career. You will be able to meet different people and get access to opportunities that you might not have had.

Networking is something everyone should do and something I recommend for anyone looking to learn how to get a digital marketing job.

How to improve yourself by learning a foreign language:

Learning a foreign language is a great way to differentiate yourself from everyone else in your industry.

One of my favorite apps for learning a different language is Duolingo

Having goals is extremely important if you want a successful life. Regardless of where your life is right now, create a goal for where you’d like to be.

How to improve yourself by creating goals:

I’d recommend creating quarterly, yearly, and 5-year goals.

How to improve yourself by finding a mentor:

Finding a mentor can fast-track your career. It’s one thing to take advice from normal people in your life but it’s another to take advice from someone who has already been where you’d like to be in life.

Mentors can help you save time and money from a simple phone call.

No matter how mentally strong you are, you’re going to need a break eventually. Try to plan one vacation per year.

Meditation comes in many different forms. Although the popular version involves managing your breathing, sitting still, and focusing – you don’t have to do that.

My preferred method of meditation involves laying on the couch and staring on the ceiling. Somehow, I bore myself into meditation.

But that might not work for you. Find a way to meditate that makes you relax and allows you to clear your thoughts.

Books are a way to gain knowledge from people you’ve never met. By reading at least one book per month you’ll be increasing your knowledge and mindset.

So how do you build your confidence? By tackling challenges you face in life.

It’s a catch-22 situation. But understand that the more challenges you overcome, the more confident you’ll become, and the more challenges you’ll be able to overcome.

Cleaning your house is one of those small tasks that help you feel accomplished. That feeling of accomplishment will help give you more motivation to accomplish bigger tasks.

Whenever you have a big task or goals, break them down into smaller more manageable pieces. This will make big tasks and goals easier to handle and accomplish.

Map out all of the steps needed to achieve your goal regardless of how small that step may seem.

TV is a big distraction. It requires a big time investment but as soon as you turn off the TV and walk away, you have nothing to show for the time you’ve just used.

Instead of using TV for entertainment, try to do something that will make your life better tomorrow.

Don’t make excuses when things don’t go your way. By making excuses, you’re focusing on what held you back instead of how you could have been better.

You are the average of the 5 closest people in your circle. Evaluate your relationships and verify that you’re keeping winners in your circle.

There’s a positive moment in every situation. Instead of looking at the negative moment and dwelling on it, look through the negative moments and find the positive.

Don’t look at failure as a bad thing. Failure is actually a good thing. It’s a part of the process of being successful.

So many people don’t try and thus, never fail. They never move forward in life. But some of the biggest failures in life are extremely successful.

Stress is a silent killer. Try to avoid it if possible. I’d highly recommend building your confidence for handling unknown situations. This has helped me stay calm and stress free during many hectic moments.

Overthinking will hold you back before you ever begin. Don’t worry about all of the extremely small details. Before doing something, I like to think of the best case scenario and worst case scenario. If the worst case scenario isn’t that bad and the best case scenario is life changing, I start.

Sometimes I succeed, other times I fail. Regardless, I stick to my strategy because my successes have changed my life more than my failures.

Lower your expectations of other people. We tend to have high expectations from those close to us, which leads to disappointment when they don’t live up to those standards.

The problem? Those were your expectations. People’s actions will show you exactly what you should expect from them. If you can manage your expectations, you’ll prevent yourself from building unecessary resentment for people.

Find an enjoyable hobby that helps you take your mind off of your normal day-to-day tasks. Focus on getting better at this hobby. The deeper you get involved in a hobby, the more likely you are to develop new relationships and experiences.

Improve Your Communication

Improving your communicational skills will bring in a ton of benefits in all areas of your life. For example, it’ll help with making friends, finding a compatible significant other, and more.

There’s always room for improving your communication skills. Take a look at the list below and pick an area you’d like to focus on.

It’s easy to get busy in your everyday life and go days or weeks without talking to people that important to you.

Organize the people in your life into categories based on how often you should reach out to them. And actively stay in contact with them.

When communicating, try to actively listen more than you speak. Avoid thinking of your reply while the other person is talking.

When communicating, show that you’re engaged and interested in the conversation by asking more questions.

Everybody communicates differently. In order to properly get your message across, you’ll want to learn how the person you’re talking to communicates.

A good book for learning how people communicate is: We Need to Talk: How to Have Conversations That Matter

When communicating, it’s easy to assume that the other person understands your feelings. However, in most cases, they won’t know unless you tell them.

If expressing your feelings is difficult, don’t worry. This is an area that I struggle with as well. As long as you’re aware of the problem and working on improving it, you should be able to make good progress in the right direction.

When communicating with people you’re looking to build a relationship with someone, it’s crucial to identify toxic traits or “red flags” without ignoring them. If you ignore them, those toxic traits will eventually leech into your life.

Improve Your Appearance

You’re judged based on your appearance (including things you can’t change such as height). While it can be unfair at times, we can’t act like it doesn’t happen. So, in order to use this to your benefit – improve your appearance.

Looks at the list below and see if there are any areas you can improve yourself on.

Getting your clothes tailored is an inexpensive way to make sure your clothes fit you exactly like you want. I’d recommend looking for local tailors in your neighborhood.

Another way to improve your personal appearance is to iron your clothes. Wrinkles tend to make our clothes fit weird and comes with a certain level of judgement from others.

I still don’t iron all of my clothes but a method that makes it easier for me is to iron my clothes after I wash them before hanging them up.

A big self-esteem booster for most people involves clear skin.

I’d recommend at a minimum, washing your face daily at night. I typically only use a wet microfiber cloth, but you can use face soap if you’d like.

Your hair is a big part of your overall image. It won’t matter if your outfit is perfect if your hair looks rough.

Try getting your hair done (or cut) regularly. I personally prefer to get my hair retwisted once a month (I have Locs) while getting a lineup every 2 weeks.

Regardless of your hairstyle, make sure you’re regularly maintaining it to improve your appearance.

Building a wardrobe can be expensive but a good way to bring the cost down is to build a multi-purpose wardrobe.

Focus on purchasing neutral colored items instead of “bold” items. This will allow you to mix and match majority of your wardrobe.
